Red, White & Blue

For the last month or so Ben's class has been studying American symbols for Social Studies.  Yesterday they put on a little American program.  It was so sweet!!!  They sang songs including God Bless the USA which they also did in sign language.  There is nothing better than patriotic songs sung by children.  Brought tears to my eyes.
They also each had to do a report on a famous American landmark.  Ben's was Mount Rushmore.  We enjoyed researching about Mount Rushmore.  He had to give a little oral presentation on it as well.  He did so good!!  He spoke clearly and had it all memorized.  I was so proud!
After the program he showed us all of his stories and work he had done on his iPad during the year.  I love that he is learning so much about technology.  His stories were really great!
A spontaneous dance party broke out in the classroom.  Note Kate in there with the 1st graders!
I am so sad that we have to say good bye to Mrs. Stokes tomorrow.  She has been the most amazing teacher!!!!  I cannot tell you what a blessing she has been.  She has helped Ben grow this year beyond what I could have imagined.  She has loved him as well.  She truly has a gift for teaching.  I am so thankful Ben got to have her!
I have to brag for just a minute.  Ben won the award for the most AR points in the entire 1st grade!!!!  We are so proud of him!!  I can't believe how far he has come in his reading.  He started the year a little below grade level in reading but now he is reading on a 4th grade level.  He has worked so hard (and had an amazing teacher).  We are so proud of him and how much he has accomplished this year!
