Nothing Like an Impromptu Vacation

Thursday morning when the news (and that would be battery run radio news) said to be prepared for 4-5 days without power I was in shock. Matt was at work and I didn't know how I was going to deal with 2 kiddos for that long with no power! I had to make a quick decision. Matt's parents were heading down to their beach condo (they already had a trip scheduled) so I decided to tag along. Nothing like packing for an undetermined amount of time for 3 people in about 20 minutes. And then we were off to the coast!!! Everything about the trip was just wonderful. The kids did amazing! It was nice to have help with them and also great to have power. We didn't do much of anything while we were down there. The weather was just perfect. We were able to bring coolers of food down with us to try to save some of our food so we didn't even eat out. It was really relaxing and fun.

Every morning we ate breakfast out on the patio Ben was practicing his surfing moves!

We packed up and headed down to the beach each morning. They loved riding in the wagon. Kate cracked us up by throwing everything out of the wagon.

Yes this is the boy that hates the beach!! For the first time in 4 years he didn't scream when he touched sand!!! He actually enjoyed it.

And "Little Miss Nothing Bothers Me" loved it of course!!

The weather could not have been more perfect! Sunny and warm but not hot. The water was actually a good temperature. Sitting on my beach chair, soaking up the sun I couldn't help but feel guilty. Just hours away there was so much suffering. And all our family and friends back home had no power. It was a strange feeling an place to be. Made it really hard to fully enjoy. They had so much fun building sand castles!

Kate enjoyed eating the sand.
Matt was able to drive down late Friday night and join us for the weekend. Everyone was so happy to see him.

Saturday night we were able to meet Brad, LeeAnn and Paige for dinner at Cosmos! It was so great to get to see them and spend some time hanging out. Love that they dropped everything to hang out with us "evacuees."

Sunday morning we packed up and started making our way home. Still no power but Matt had to be back at work on Monday and we needed to get home to check on things. My parents and Kelly and Andrew had been staying at the Ross Bridge Resort in Birmingham for a couple of nights. We stopped by to see them and eat dinner in Birmingham. The kids and I ended up staying the night there since there was still no power. The resort is just amazing!!! We had a great time. Everyone had a blast at the pool!

We were ready to head home once we got word there was power!!! We had a great time on our little vacation. Not the circumstances that I like to go on vacations but still fun. I am so thankful we had the opportunity to get away.
