What We Will Do For Our Kids

TGIF!!!! So glad for the weekend. It's been a long weekend and I am looking forward to a fun weekend with family and friends.

So a little over a year ago our friends Brad and LeeAnn began telling us about their adventures to get Paige (before she was even born) into a daycare. They had to stand in line at 4:45 in the morning to get a spot (you can read about it here). We laughed and called them crazy!! Little did we know. (By the way today is Paige's first birthday!!! I can't believe she is one!!! I so wish we could be celebrating with her. Love you guys!!)

Flash forward a year. A couple of months ago it came the dreaded time to start deciding where to send the kids to school next year. Ben has been going to our church's weekday program since he was 4 months old and we love it. But we really felt like it was time for a change. Next year is a big year in preparing for kindergarten. We wanted to make sure he was at the best school. So I started asking around to parents and teachers. And the same program kept getting brought up over and over. It sounded great. I had looked at it when Ben first started school but it didn't accept babies so I hadn't thought much about it. I figured we would look at it again once both kids were old enough to go. They both are now. I went on a tour a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. It is just what they both need. The pre-K program is really structured and uses the curriculum I was wanting. I was so excited...

Problem being that because it is so good spots are really limited!! I kept calling for an update and Ben's class only had 4 openings. That's just not many. We knew we would have to be early to get in the class. Last year people began lining up at 2:45 am!!! Yes that early!!! Both Matt and I were on board and knew this is what we needed to do. Yesterday was actually registration day and Matt got up early to head over but with the snow schools ended up getting cancelled.

So today was the big day!!! We were up at 2:15 and Matt was there at 3 am. He was the 3rd person in line. Yes at 3 am he was 3rd!!!! Crazy!!! Thank goodness he got there that early. The person in front of him and behind him were all going for the same class as Ben. I am sure if he had been much later Ben would not have gotten a spot. Also remember that it was 16 degrees this morning while he was waiting in line. That is some dedicated daddy love!!! Ben is going to be in the 5 day a week pre-K program and Kate will be in the 1 year old 3 day a week program. I am so excited.

We don't think Brad and LeeAnn are crazy anymore. We have become those crazy parents. We will do just about anything to give our kids all the advantages in life!! We pray that they love their new school and that it will be a place for them to grow and thrive. It is hard to believe that this time next year Ben will be signing up for kindergarten!! The good thing is they have to let him in so we don't have to wait out in the cold.

This is my wonderful husband really early this morning!! I got up and made him coffee for the wait. We are so glad to have all this stress behind us. Who knew preschool could be so stressful!!!

We used to have a preschool program here that folks waited in line for like that! The best ones are worth it, though! Out of curiosity, what curriculum? Reagan is doing to Abeka k4 at home this year and has loved every minute of it and has learned SO much!!!
So glad that is over for yall...praying your kids sleep all night tonight so you and Matt can recover from two early mornings!
